Dan's San Gabriel Valley Painting And Global Warming, A Call To Arms!

painted house 2 story

You might ask "What does house painting have to do with global warming?" Our answer is "Plenty." Let me explain: Painting is one of the trades that has a huge environmental impact. The fact that all structures need to be repainted every so often is a major concern, as far as the environment is concerned.

We here at Dan's San Gabriel Valley Painting care about the environment, and the legions of other creatures that share the planet with us. Polar bears are having trouble finding food because their normal habitat, the polar ice shelf, is disappearing day-by-day. Coral reefs that supply habitat for many marine species are slated to disappear because the seas are turning acidic, due to the intake of the extra carbon dioxide.

Of course, I'm sure you have noticed plenty of changes too. Here in Southern California the past couple of summers have been very hot. It is mid-November as I write this article and it feels just like any other summer day. Little by little the difference between the seasons is narrowing. The unseasonal temperatures are creating havoc with our planting seasons, affecting the world's food supply. The list of possible future changes is very long, I could go on and on!

It is true environmental concern that has encouraged Dan's San Gabriel Painting to promote energy efficient, thermal barrier paints and coatings. We kindly encourage the visitor to undertake any step to reduce the need for carbon-based fuel sources. It doesn't have to be a major endeavor, by any means! As an example, the next time one of your standard incandescent light bulbs burns out, all you have to do is replace it with a CFB (a compact fluorescent bulb)

We also encourage the incoming administration to put forth a "Manhattan Energy Project" to create and promote new green energy technologies. Our dependence on imported oil, and its disastrous effect on the environment, is something we must confront sooner, rather than later. Our energy industry must be given a new direction. A do-or-die call to arms must be the resolute action of caring citizens as well as our political leadership.

Industry's myopic adherence to the bottom line, with its fear-driven and shortsighted goals, must be replaced with a government program to support and encourage the creation of green energy and transportation alternatives. For a full view of the ills created by the above shortsighted attitude, look no further than to the present plight of the Big 3 automobile producers: Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, when they could have been producing greener transportation ages ago!

The need for change on a global scale is a pressing one, and the attitude that "I'll do it tomorrow, or some other time," will not suffice. Why? Because action must be taken on an individual basis now, since the effect of the changes will not be felt for many years to come...but we have to start now, because tomorrow will be too late. Many of the plants and creatures that share this planet with us won't be able to wait 'till tomorrow; a sobering thought when you consider that they provide not only biological diversity, but are the main constituents of our present food chain.
